Polly's Pop Art 12 Flavors is my choice for creating my own "Pop Art". It is a childhood memory of luxurious craft pop at its finest. Polly Compton of Independence, Missouri, first bottled the soda in 1923. The bottling company was closed soon after the aluminum can came into the manufacturing process in the late 1960s. Now just like Pop Art, the craft soda is making a comeback thanks to Ken and Cindy McClain.

Most people have seen the work of Andy Warhol and his Campbell's Soup Can process of mass production of art, but this is taking a different flavor in production. Jo Narron has painting each variety of the new Polly's Pop. There are twelve flavors today made with pure cane sugar. Narron created the paintings in the mass production line by first drawing one bottle of the soda for the model. The drawing next was copied twelve times and transferred to the painting surfaces using graphite on the back of each copy. Each flavor has its own label color, and the assembly line begins with the label being painted minus the parrot. The pop flavor was next drawn and painted into the label. After all the labels were painted in the color to represent the flavors, the next mass production process was the painting of the parrot. The process continued with the colored pop flavor liquid and on down the line until the twelve bottles of pop were completed.

This Pop Art idea came with a visit to Independence to purchase each flavor of craft pop to satisfy Narron's childhood favorite drink craving. Now with the one hundredth year celebration approaching July 1st of 2023, the artist, Narron worked on creating her own series of "Pop Art". Oh, she might have been seen drinking a bottle or two as the art manufacturing took place.

There are twelve flavors of Polly's Pop. Each flavor is painted on a separate wood panel measuring 6 inches x 12 inches. The panels can be arranged differently and mixed and matched or hung separately.
